• A charity can either be self-nominated or preferably, be referred to apply to the Capacity Building Initiative by a board member, donor or other sponsor.  Make any reference clear in your application.
  • Potential applicants should first check criteria for eligibility and if in any doubt, then make contact with the Capacity Building Initiative and check for suitability (click on the above link to contact us).  They should also send their Mission Statement / Statement of Purpose by email with any inquiry.
  • An application form should then be filled out and submitted by both email and by post (details on the form).  Application forms may normally be submitted to the end of March and are available below (however, it is recommended that you register with the CBI mailing list to receive early opportunities and available openings throughout the year).  From the information provided by all applicants, we will short-list to the final selection stages.
  • According to the information provided, you may be asked either for an interview, or to clarify certain information, or asked to resubmit at a later stage.  You may also be declined, but the reasons for unsuccessful application are ALWAYS given if requested (and in general are due to large budget and/or staff size, location, staff availability, etc.).
  • If proceeding, an onsite (if possible) meeting with the board chairman or president, the CEO and fundraiser is then arranged.  This is in order to clarify mutual expectations to make sure the CBI will most assist in fundraising.  Interviews for shortlisted candidates are usually held in April and May.  In the meeting we would like to see as much of the candidate’s operations as possible and meet key staff.  In the meeting we can fully discuss the program content and structure, together with its outputs, outcomes and expected impact.  Candidates should prepare questions or concerns to be addressed.   Candidates may also want to prepare some reading and/or promotional materials to be provided.
  • For final selected candidates, a formal request and recommendation will be made to The Pratt Foundation for inclusion in the Program.
  • All applicants are notified of the result by mid-June.

Program is scheduled to start at the beginning of July each year.
